Dispatch of Japan’s Self-Defense Force Aircraft for Earthquake Relief in Türkiye

On March 13, 2023, the Government of Japan decided to send Self-Defense Force aircraft to assist with earthquake relief efforts in the Republic of Türkiye. This decision was made under the Act on Dispatchment of the Japan Disaster Relief Team in response to the devastating earthquake in the region.

 

A Self-Defense Force aircraft is scheduled to depart as early as March 14, with the mission of delivering emergency relief supplies, such as tents stored in Pakistan, to Türkiye. This operation marks Japan's first international relief mission in partnership with NATO, following requests from both Türkiye and NATO for assistance in transportation.

 

Leveraging its experience as a country frequently affected by earthquakes, Japan is committed to providing essential support in cooperation with NATO and other international organizations to aid Türkiye in this time of crisis.
